The laminated glass consists of two different pieces of glass; one is the float glass, which is fixed together with a plastic or PVB plastic layer in between (safety glass), which is made to hold it in place when it cracks. This plastic comes in various sizes and can either be clear or tinted. When laminated glass breaks, it will flex before shattering thus reducing the risk of injury. One of the greatest advantages of laminated glass is that if it breaks, the broken glass will stick to the enclosed plastic rather than falling on the floor and creating a health hazard.
Additionally, it also has an added advantage of blocking nearly 99% of the UV rays. It efficiently screens out the radiation and avoids the glass from fading as well. Laminated glass also gives high sound insulation and can also help with soundproofing. Although it is termed as laminated glass, it is basically a process and you can laminate any glass including a toughened glass. This makes the laminated glass a standard for the vehicle windshields.
